SACP: SACP mourns the death of comrade Zola Skweyiya

The South African Communist Party mourns the death of Comrade Zola Skweyiya, and conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Skweyiya family, our liberation movement and our South African society at large. Comrade Zola, 75, passed away on Wednesday, 11 April. The contribution he made in our liberation struggle before 1994 and the reconstruction and development of our country after our April 1994 democratic breakthrough is colossal.

His role, which he played as part of the rank and file of our liberation movement and its collective leadership, requires adequate recognition. This is the task that our liberation movement and government – itself a product of our liberation struggle, must fulfil in consolidating a coherent programme to document the history of the struggle and its stalwarts.

The SACP reiterates its call, that the educational content produced from the process must find practical expression in our curriculum at all levels as part and parcel of our national imperative to build a non-racial, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa without class, racial and gender inequalities.
