SAA bailout ‘morally indefensible’ – DA ahead of picket

Opposition party the Democratic Alliance (DA) will picket outside Parliament on Thursday, ahead of Finance Minister Tito Mboweni’s Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement address.

The party is against the bailout of the South African Airways (SAA) and claims that Mboweni will announce a R10.5-billion bailout for the struggling national airline, which received R16.4-billion in February.

DA MP and spokesperson on finance Geordin Hill-Lewis will lead the picket.

“The DA is saying enough is enough. No one left in South Africa is still trying to make a case for why SAA should be bailed out again. It is a morally indefensible choice to make,” he said.

The picket will commence at 10:30, in front of Parliament, on Plein street.
