SA: Scopa interested in outcome of SIU investigation into SABC

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) today told the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) that it is interested in the final reports of all the cases being investigated by the SIU, particularly the report into the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

Scopa is interested in the investigation into the SABC, as the Committee has been dealing with the matter of the public broadcaster since the beginning and is interested in the outcomes of the investigation. This is to ensure that the good work of improving conditions at the SABC, which is currently taking place, continues and that consequences are imposed on all those found to be in the wrong.

Scopa has proposed that the SIU submits a copy of its final reports to Parliament at the same time as it submits a copy to the President. This proposal is aimed at strengthening the work of Parliament in exercising oversight over the executive. Scopa would like to pursue this option in partnership with the SIU to curb corruption and wrong-doing in government and state entities. Scopa is looking forward to working closely with the SIU to improve how the public purse is used in the public sector.
