SA: Ad Hoc Committee on SABC Board Inquiry concerned about Prof Maguvhe's absence

The Ad Hoc Committee on South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Board Inquiry has expressed concern about the absence of Prof Mbulaheni Maguvhe, who was invited to appear before the Committee today.

The Committee has instructed Parliament’s Legal Services to summon Prof Maguvhe to appear before it as a witness on Tuesday next week, and hand over certain documents that the Committee requested.

At the same time, the Committee further noted with dismay the absence of the SABC Executive Board Members at the inquiry, in light of the fact that their legal representative argued in court that the SABC needed opportunity to cross-examine witnesses.

The Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee, Mr Vincent Smith, said the proceedings of the first two days of the inquiry were satisfactory. “We are confident that the Committee is in the right direction and that the information gathered thus far will assist a great deal at the end when the Committee prepares its final report,” said Mr Smith.

The Committee will continue tomorrow, where Mr Krish Naidoo, former board member; Mr Phil Molefe, former Acting Group Chief Executive Officer; and Mr Itani Tseisi, former Risk and Governance Group Executive, will appear before the Committee to provide evidence.
