President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared November 1, the day of the local government elections, a public holiday.

He urged employers to make provision for employees to exercise their Constitutional right to vote and called on all registered voters to exercise their democratic right and civic duty by voting.

He also reminded voters that they will only be able to cast their votes at polling stations in wards where they are registered.

“In the event that voters may consider travel, they will not be able to transfer their votes to voting stations away from their designated wards,” he explained.

The President also stressed the importance of adhering to Covid-19 health regulations on voting day.
