Police Committee to interrogate Crime Intelligence Unit restructuring

26th June 2017

The Portfolio Committee on Police will tomorrow (Tuesday, 27 June 2017) seek answers from the South African Police Service (SAPS) on the restructuring process of the Crime Intelligence Unit.

Committee Chairperson Mr Francois Beukman said this unit has a critical responsibility to reduce crime, and it is important that it is resourced and structured appropriately. “Allowing instability in the Crime Intelligence Unit will be detrimental to the country’s crime fighting efforts,” Mr Beukman said.

The Committee will also receive third and fourth quarterly reports from the Independent Investigative Directorate (IPID). IPID will also brief the Committee on progress made regarding the Section 9 reports or referrals made by the Committee.
