Paul Roux Waste Water Treatment Plant feedback

3rd November 2022

The DA conducted a follow-up oversight visit to the Paul Roux Waste Water Treatment Plant. The plant previously came to a standstill because of electricity cable theft causing raw sewage to run into the Sand River.

Accompanied by the Ward 15 branch Chairperson, Gerrit Olivier, the Paul Roux Unit Manager, representatives from the Free State Provincial Department of Water and Sanitation and community member, Okkie Jacobs.

The DA had requested urgent and immediate corrective measures to bring the seweragepollution to an end. We are happy to report that the electricity disconnection has been restored and the Plant was in full operation.

Technicians were also on site busy with work on the electricity supply. The spillage of sewage from the Plant into the dam next to the sewerage plant had been stopped.

All attempts by the municipality to falsify our claims made to the Green Scorpions that sewage was spilling out of the Plant into the Sand River, failed. We proved that the water in the dam flows over into the nearby Sand River. We have submitted video clips together with the letters written to the municipalities to the representatives of the Provincial Department of Water and Sanitation.

No explanations have been submitted by either Dihlabeng or Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality concerning the submitted letters written to them. Only a simple indication that water samples should have been taken for inspection of the sewage. The Provincial Department of Water and Sanitation is still compiling a report. We are however satisfied that the sewage has stopped and that installation work has begun on the stolen electricity cable.

The DA will continue to hold the Municipality accountable for service delivery. We ask voters to check their voter registration status and to ensure that they are correctly registered for the upcoming National and Provincial elections. We urge voters to choose the DA to implement our policy of good governance.
