Parliament salutes nurses on International Nurses Day

Parliament’s Presiding Officers, led by National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise, and the chairperson of the National Council of Provinces Amos Masondo said on Wednesday that the role of nurses cannot be overemphasised.

The world celebrates International Nurses Day on Wednesday, commemorated each year on the birthday of the founder of modern nursing Florence Nightingale.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has brought into greater emphasis the everyday sacrifices that nurses make for our health and preserving lives. We salute them for giving so much of themselves to improve the lives and health of those in need, sometimes even under difficult and traumatic circumstances,” said the Presiding Officers.

The Presiding Officers also paid homage to nurses who died in the line of duty.
