PANSALB TO LAUNCH SOUTH AFRICAN SIGN LANGUAGE CHARTER (SASLC)

September 2020 will mark 62 years of the celebration of International Month for the Deaf as declared by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD).

As part of commemorating this historic milestone, the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) will on Friday, 04 September 2020, officially launch the South African Sign Language Charter.

The Charter aims to remove barriers to enables Deaf community to equitable access to information, services, and to participate in all spheres of life.  This Charter seek to promote recognition of SASL as an official language to be included in Sub-Section 6(1) of the Constitution, Act 108 of 1996, and be adopted in terms of Section 234 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, Act 108 of 1996.
