OUTA: OUTA presents evidence to Parliament’s inquiry into Guptas’ naturalisation

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) today presented damning evidence connecting former Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba to the controversial Gupta family.

Rudie Heyneke, OUTA’s lead in state capture, made the presentation to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, which is conducting an inquiry into the early naturalisation of the Gupta family.

In OUTA’s presentation, Heyneke indicated that Ashu Chawla (a senior Gupta employee) wrote to Minister Gigaba in September 2015 requesting the early naturalisation for three members of the Gupta family. This was approved by the Minister and a certificate of naturalisation was issued on 17 December that same year, despite the DG dismissing the application.

Heyneke said that Minister Gigaba had received numerous invitations from the Gupta family to attend special events.

“We hope that the evidence presented is sufficient to assist the portfolio committee to probe Minister Gigaba to provide the answers South Africa deserves,” said Heyneke.

In addition to presenting our evidence to Parliament, over the past year OUTA has laid criminal complaints against various officials linked to state capture, including Minister Gigaba, Chawla, Home Affairs official Gideon Christians and the Gupta brothers.
