Residents can now comment on the concept design for the City of Cape Town’s Safety and Security Training College in Muizenberg. The purpose of the project is to develop a new facility that will accommodate the training requirements for the directorate in the long term. 

This facility will also be used to roll out training requirements on a local, provincial and national level. 

The existing property, known as Die Burger Strandhuis, consists of several single level buildings, paved areas, outdoor play areas and equipment and a water feature.

It has become derelict in recent years, but is ideal for the expanding training needs of the directorate.

‘Staff within the Safety and Security Directorate must remain up to date with all legislative requirements, and remain competent through refresher training and workshops. If we want to continue building capacity, we need a facility that can accommodate all our growing needs,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.

The 1,13 hectare site borders existing public open spaces, roads and road reserves on all sides and is ideally situated close to transport infrastructure.

The proposed upgrade to the facility will comprise the following elements, among others:

• Three new auditoriums
• Eight new Lecture Rooms 
• Library
• Swimming Pool
• Dormitories and ablutions
• A new gym
• Boardrooms
• Admin Block
• Social/Recreational spaces

‘This is an opportunity for residents to have their say and have their voices heard. Now is the time to submit your considered and informed inputs. We want to hear from our residents, so don’t miss this opportunity,’ added Alderman Smith. 

An open day will be held on Wednesday, 18 October between 13:00 and 18:30 at the site, Die Burger Strandhuis, corner of Bath and Margate Roads, Muizenberg.
