NUPSAW Community Healthcare Workers Will Be Up In Arms

Home Affairs Minister Minister Aaron Motsoaledi

The National Union of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) welcomes the decision by the Gauteng Department of Health to permanently absorb all Gauteng Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs) on DPSA salary level 2 as of 1st July 2020. As per our agreement with the former Minister Aaron Motsoaledi and resolution 1 of 2018 of the Public Health and Social Development Sectoral Bargaining Council (PHSDSBC). We are disappointed that other Provinces are reluctant to recognise CHWS as public servants.

NUPSAW and its members who are Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs) will be up in arms on the 1st September 2020 across all Provinces for the #DOLIKEGAUTENGCAMPAIGN.  They will be demanding the following:

• Absorption of Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs) on Salary level 2 as an interim solution for our demand of salary level 5.

• R2000 COVID-19 danger allowance

• Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all healthcare workers

In the interests of the health of communities and the working class, the Department of Health must end the exploitation of Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs) and start to recognise the Community Health Workers (CHWs) as permanent employees of the Department of Health and the valuable work that they perform.
