NUMSA congratulates the new leadership of SAFTU

NUMSA General Secretary, Irvin Jim

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) congratulates the new leadership of SAFTU, which was elected at Birchwood in Ekurhuleni last night. We are pleased to announce that NUMSA 2nd Deputy President comrade Ruth Ntlokotse was also elected as the President of SAFTU. This is definitely a positive development and we see this as an encouraging sign that more and more women will occupy positions of leadership in working class formations in the future.

The congress elected the following people to positions of leadership:

1.     General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi

2.     Deputy General Secretary Luzipo Nontembeko

3.     President Ruth Ntlokotse

4.     1st Deputy President Thabo Matsose

5.     2nd Deputy President Maredi Mosima

6.     Treasurer Motshwari Lecogo

This is the second national congress of the federation since it was launched in April 2017, and we are confident that this leadership can help navigate the challenges which the working class is faced with. We wish them strength and all the best for the future.

Issued on behalf of NUMSA General Secretary, Irvin Jim
