NUM Shocked by The Suden Passing of Its North East Deputy Secretary Dumisani Mavhungu

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) is deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden passing away of its North East Regional Deputy Secretary comrade Dumisani Mavhungu. comrade Mavhungu passed away last night, 14 January 2021, while admitted at Middelburg Hospital. The cause of his death is still unknown and more details will be communicated after the NUM regional leadership meeting with the family today.

 Comrade Mavhungu will always be remembered for his commitment and dedication in fighting for the rights of the working class and their conditions of employment. He dedicated his entire life to the service of NUM members with integrity starting from his time as a branch secretary to the region. He was a trade unionist who did not cease to fight for the rights of the NUM members.

He was a champion of the working class who spent most of his life advancing working-class unity. He never wavered nor retreated in the face of setbacks. NUM members will cherish his memory as one of the most fierce fighters for working-class unity and a steadfast defender of workers' rights. NUM has lost a true servant of the workers.

Comrade Mavhungu was a firm believer in the rights of the working class both locally and internationally as well as the champion of the voice of the voiceless.

NUM conveys its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire NUM members during this difficult time. May his soul rest in everlasting peace.
