NSDV welcomes Muhammed Khan as senior associate

NSDV announced today that Muhammed Khan has joined the Mining and Environmental Law Department as a Senior Associate. Muhammed has extensive experience in advising clients on their rights and obligations under several pieces of legislation impacting the mining and petroleum industries in South Africa.

“We are so excited to welcome Muhammed to the team and look forward combining  his international experience in energy and infrastructure development projects with our exciting portfolio of clients,” says Lili Nupen, Director at NSDV.

Muhammed combines his regulatory experience with expertise in negotiating, drafting, and reviewing various complex commercial contracts. He has extensively engaged with various governmental departments including the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, the Petroleum Agency of South Africa and the National Energy Regulator of South Africa. Khan is also no stranger to drafting various applications under the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, the Mine Health and Safety Act, and the Gas Act.

“I joined NSDV to do meaningful work. I love the law and in particular mining law, so I wanted to be around people who equally love the law and find creative interpretations within its parameters. I believe I found my tribe at NSDV,” says Muhammed.

Prior to joining NSDV, Muhammed served as Head of Legal at a listed company focused on producing emerging natural gas. Muhammed oversaw the conclusion of a facility loan agreement with the US International Development Finance Corporation, as well as the execution of key construction contracts necessary to construct a Liquefaction Plant (producing Liquefied Natural Gas and Liquefied Helium) with local and international contractors.
