#NotInMyNameInternational through its Social Justice Mandate seeks to strengthen the foundations of our democracy and our Constitution by standing up for the rights of women in South Africa and across the world. We are a leading advocacy group against femicide, rape culture and commoditization of women and children. However, our campaign is not just about GBV, but it was a major focus for the first phase of work.

Highlighting the matters of abuse and GBV encouraged in us a broad process of reflection and discussion amongst ourselves as activists about the quality of life in South Africa and we have since adopted a  wide Covid-19 Disaster Relief Approach, as well as an International Scope of Practice.

The onus thus rests upon us to sharply raise disconcerting matters concerning South African public officials. We cannot remain idle when the SAPS, again and again, gets on the wrong side of the law regarding the use of force and firearms on unarmed citizens.

We compare recent treatment of picketers by the SAPS at recent events in Pretoria where  civil rights movements under the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter and protesters against #FarmKillings were treated.

Secondly, it is of no assistance to the public if the SAPS is not compliant with the Domestic Violence Act – numerous cases go cold, some aren’t efficiently investigated thus justice becomes delayed by the courts, and dockets are found in velds with no disciplinary processes for the officers responsible for the cases. It is further disconcerting that high profile cases either receive attention that ordinary citizens would not receive, or the case is never heard of again such as the rape and sexual misconduct charges levelled against Danny Jordaan.

At our briefing, we will touch on these and other salient matters of social injustice in South Africa. The media briefing will take place as follows:
