The General Secretary of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU], Cde Zola Saphetha, will address the ongoing strike at the National Students Financial Aid Scheme [NSFAS] tomorrow morning [Tuesday October 06, 2020] in Cape Town.
The strike started this morning and will run indefinitely up until all our demands are met. Workers are demanding an 8% salary increase while the employer is only prepared to offer a 0% salary increase. Moreover, the strike will be used to highlight workers anger over the following issues:

· An automated IT system for disbursement of funds to students
· Appointment of a CEO and a board
· The illegal extension of the Administrator
· Adoption of the Government Employees Pension Fund [GEPF] and other alternative pension fund services providers as the current one is ineffective
· Implementation of progressive human resources policies for workers development
· Defunct human resources systems and outdated policies
· Unfair suspensions and victimization of workers based on union affiliation
· Withdrawal funding for 5000 students
· Finalisation of the funding of students for 2017/18
