Former minister Nomvula Mokonyane has been "reassigned" to go work at the African National Congress (ANC) headquarters, Luthuli House, and will no longer take up her parliamentary post, the governing party said on Wednesday.

Mokonyane, a former minister of environmental affairs, is the third senior party member so far to withdraw from taking up the oath in Parliament on Wednesday.  

Earlier, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that his deputy David Mabuza will not be sworn-in on Wednesday. Mabuza has asked his party to postpone his swearing-in due to an adverse ANC Integrity Commission report on him. 

Mokonyane was announced as the new chair of chairs for the party on Monday. 

ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe said Mokonyane told the party that she would be unable to fulfil parliamentary duties due to family responsibilities.

"The ANC is in receipt of a request by comrade Nomvula Mokonyane to reconsider her deployment to the sixth Parliament as House Chairperson," Mabe said.

"Comrade Nomvula has since advised the ANC that due to family responsibilities and her being in mourning currently, she believes she would be unable to diligently and with commitment, fulfil her duties at this stage as a member of the sixth Parliament. The ANC will accordingly reassign Comrade Nomvula to its headquarters at Luthuli House." 

Mokonyane's appointment received mixed reactions this week following a string of allegations of corruption against her made at the Zondo-led State capture commission of inquiry. Bosasa's former CEO Angelo Agrizzi alleged that she took gifts and cash from the now-defunct company.
