The Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, will on 06 August 2020, handover over the Randfontein Wastewater Treatment Works to the Rand West City Local Municipality following its upgrading.

The Treatment Works was technically non-operational, leading to the effluent being discharged, not complying with the Department’s specifications and experiencing mechanical breakdowns due to ageing equipment.

The treatment works presently serves a population of approximately 90 000, which is estimated to grow to 104 526 by the year 2027.
