MINISTER MCHUNU TO LAUNCH GOVERNMENT INTEGRATED PUBLIC SERVICE MONTH

3rd September 2020

The Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Mr Senzo Mchunu, will on Friday, 4 September 2020, virtually launch the integrated Public Service Month (PSM), setting-off a series of activities earmarked to celebrate the annual public service programme which is aimed at recognising the work done by public servants across all three spheres of government.

The month-long programme, taking place against the backdrop of a global pandemic, the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), will be commemorated under the theme: “Growing South Africa Together for an Ethical Public Service".

The theme seeks to instill and rebuild good ethics and professionalism in how public servants perform their functions whilst also recognising the selflessness of the many frontline public servants, inclusive of doctors, nurses, caregivers, paramedics and police officials, who continue to work tirelessly in fighting against COVID-19, and have dedicated their lives to serving the public.

The impact of COVID-19 on the health sector, is but one area that  has highlighted the need for government to do things differently. The current climate of COVID-19 provides a “tectonic shift” on how services are offered, and requires the technological solutions of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Not only will that create new possibilities which will improve people’s lives, but will also serve as an opportunity for the review and the adaptation of service delivery policies for improved service delivery post COVID-19.
