South Africa recorded 139 more Covid-19-related deaths by Sunday, bringing the recorded death toll to 22 206.

Of the 139 deaths, 124 were recorded in the Eastern Cape, one in Gauteng and 14 in the Western Cape.

"We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased patients," Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement on Sunday evening.

The cumulative total of Covid-19 cases recorded in South Africa is 814 565, with 4 116 new cases identified since the last report. Recoveries are at 744 780, translating to a recovery rate of 91.4%.

A cumulative 5 592 663 tests have been conducted, of which 26 735 have been conducted since the last report.
