Latest Covid-19 numbers: 23 451 deaths, 866 127 cases and recovery rate drops to 88%

South Africa recorded 175 more Covid-19-related deaths by Tuesday, bringing the recorded death toll to 23 451.

Of the 175 deaths, 93 were recorded in the Eastern Cape, 16 in the Free State, four in Gauteng, five in KwaZulu-Natal, five in North West, 20 in the Northern Cape and 32 in the Western Cape. "

We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased patients," Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize said in a statement on Monday evening.

The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 5 884 227, with 25 049 new tests conducted since the last report. A cumulative total of 866 127 Covid-19 cases have been reported. Recoveries are at 762 746, which translates to a lower recovery rate of 88%.

On Monday, government imposed a longer curfew and placed further restrictions on gatherings across the country.
