IFP: Statement by Albert Mncwango, Inkatha Freedom Party MP, on Zululand district municipality failed to deliver water (26/09/2014)

The IFP calls on the immediate intervention by the KZN government,
specifically the MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs,
Nomusa Dube-Ncube regarding the failure by the Nongoma Local Municipality
and the Zululand District Municipality to deliver services. This includes
water, waste collection and staff salary payments and municipal ward
councillors.

"Some communities in Nongoma have not had a drop of water for the past three
months. Water tankers that are supposed to do regular water supply runs
often take ages and by the time they even come, drivers end up selling the
water to households. This free service can cost households up to R300 and
the municipality has to curbed this illegal practice" said Mr Albert
Mncwango, IFP MP.

"Local businesses are struggling without water; so much so that some are
even contemplating closing down their businesses. Refuse has not been
collected for weeks - now apparently the service provider has not been paid.
The whole town is completely filthy," continued Mncwango.

"Corruption and maladministration has been the order of the day in that
municipality for some time now. Residents have engaged in a protest march as
they have had enough of the situation. They feel that their patience has
been taken for granted. They are of the view that such inefficiency and
maladministration is a direct result of the coalition between the ANC and
NFP," concluded Mncwango.
