Happening in Parliament this week

Questions to the Economics Cluster Ministers, a two-day Policy Implementation and Legislative Review Summit, a Debate on Heritage Day and consideration of Bills plus other issues of national importance are on the Parliamentary agenda for this last week of the third term.

The National Assembly (NA) and the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) will be embarking on a two-week constituency period from 26 September to 10 October.

The Eastern Cape leg of the report back sessions on the Women’s Charter for Accelerated Development programme kicks off this week’s programme and will be held in the province’s Sarah Baartman District tomorrow (Monday).

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the NCOP is hosting a two-day Policy Implementation and Legislative Review Summit, under the theme: “Assessing Progress Made in implementing the Developmental Agenda - Accelerating Implementation of the NDP (Vision 2030)”

The NA’s Tuesday plenary is scheduled to start with Members Statements followed by a Debate on Heritage Day before it considers ‘Motions Without Notice’ and ‘Notices of Motion’.

On Wednesday, Ministers in the Economics Cluster (4) will appear in the hybrid plenary of the NA to provide oral replies to Questions from Members of the House. Cluster 4 includes Ministers of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development; Forestry, Fisheries and Environment; Employment and Labour; Mineral Resources and Energyand Communications and Digital Technologies.

During its plenary on Thursday, the NCOP will process two Bills – the Financial Sector and Deposit Insurance Levies Bill and the Financial Sector and Deposit Insurance Levies (Administration) Bill. The NA, on the other hand, will hold two mini-plenaries to consider various matters of national importance.

On Friday, the report back session on the Women’s Charter moves to Mpumalanga province.

About 35 committees are scheduled to meet this week to, amongst others, hold public hearings, interviews to fill vacancies on Chapter 9 institutions and consider various Bills.
