Power utility Eskom is calling on the public to reduce electricity use, as the system is under pressure owing to a number of generating unit breakdowns.

Total breakdowns amount to 14 925 MW, while planned maintenance is 4 759 MW of capacity.

Should there be any further breakdowns, Eskom might be forced to implement load-shedding at short notice, it warns.
