Eskom attaches Emfuleni Municipality’s bank account

The DA notes the judgment handed down by the Gauteng High Court to attach Emfuleni Local Municipality’s bank account following their failure to honour their payment agreement with Eskom.

Emfuleni currently owes Eskom a staggering R 3.5 billion and has failed to consistently service their debt agreement with the entity.

The municipality’s failure to pay Eskom and the attachments of the municipality’s bank account will have dire consequences on the municipality’s ability to render services.

Further to the Eskom debt, Emfuleni currently owes Rand Water more than R1.5 billion.
The ANC-led municipality is failing to manage its finances and continues to incur huge interests on its current debt.

Where the DA governs we ensure that taxpayers’ money to ensure that it works to the benefit of residents.

The residents of Emfuleni Municipality are in desperate need of change. The DA is the only party that can bring change and get things done in Emfuleni.
