Eskom and SAIEE commemorate International Women’s Day 2022

8th March 2022

As a signatory to the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles and the United Nations Global Compact which aims to achieve a 50/50 gender balance by 2026, Eskom under the banner of the Eskom Women Advancement Programme (EWAP), is commemorating International Women’s Day 2022 at the Eskom Academy of Learning (EAL), in partnership with the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) today.

Marked annually on the 8th of March, International Women’s Day is a significant global event aimed not only at celebrating the notable strides made by women, but to also reignite the call for action to accelerate gender parity and raise awareness about women's equality.

The theme for this year is “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, and it celebrates women who are leading the charge towards a more sustainable future, including climate change response efforts.

Eskom’s Chief Financial Officer, Mr Calib Cassim, gave an address on “Leadership taking Accountability”, while the Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Ms Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane delivered the keynote address.

This was followed by a panel discussion led by Eskom’s Group Executive for Human Resources, Ms Elsie Pule, comprising Professor Sunil Maharaj, the President of the SAIEE and Ms Bertha Dlamini, Director and Founder of African Women in Energy and Power (AWeP).
