Employes encouraged to use The Department of Employment and Labour’s Public Employment Services to recruit employees

28th January 2022

The Department of Employment and Labour’s Public Employment Service (PES) unit, North West province encourages employers to utilize its services for employee recruitment, internship candidates, and self-empowerment opportunities.

The Public Employment Services unit collects information about job seekers and assists them in matching them to available opportunities using the Employment Services of South Africa database (ESSA).

According to Ms, Slindile Nkiwane, Director of PES in the North West, utilizing this service saves employers time and other recruitment costs such as advertising, as the Department's services are provided for free.

"Our services include job seeker registration, employer registration of available positions, and job seeker matching and placement, additionally, job seekers benefit from career counselling services that include psychometric testing and job preparation. After we have completed all of this, an employer will receive curriculum vitae of individuals who match the available positions, and they will complete their recruitment process by shortlisting, interviewing, and hiring the qualified individual”; said Nkiwane.

Unemployment is one of the most pernicious social ills in the country, and the Department is doing everything possible to ensure that jobs are created and maintained.

Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) is a free service offered by the Department of Employment and Labour to all South African citizens. It assists both employers and job seekers.

Nkiwane alluded that; "Work seekers can also register on the Department's website, www.labour.gov.za, to gain access to available opportunities such as work and learning opportunities and self-employment initiatives".

Employers and job seekers may also seek registration assistance at any of the Department's offices.

Residents are reminded that this is not a recruitment drive, but one of the Department's daily free services.
