The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, welcomes the intentions of a sustained intervention in Emfuleni as announced by Gauteng Premier David Makhura today. This follows a water crisis in the past few days in some Vaal township that came as a result of non-payment for water services.

“We also would prefer a direct intervention and support by the Province in ensuring that the incapacity and inefficiency of Emfuleni District Municipality does not compromise access to water by bothpublic and private sector without burdening Rand Water, the bulk supplier,” Mokonyane said.

She condemned the blockade of access to Rand Water and urged the Mayor of Emfuleni to deal with inefficiencies in his municipality.
