DEPUTY MINISTER FISH MAHLALELA VISITS KWAZULU- NATAL PROVINCE – CHARTING THE PATH FOR TOURISM RECOVERY

19th April 2021

Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr Fish Mahlalela, accompanied by the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Mr. Ravi Pillay, will visit the ILembe and UMkhanyakude Districts in the KwaZulu-Natal Province to assess the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on businesses in the tourism value chain.

The KwaZulu-Natal Province is an ideal holiday destination for wildlife and nature enthusiasts with its spectacular coastlines, and eco-tourism offerings. The current Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected the industry and contributed to a decline in overall tourism economic activity.

The Deputy Minister and MEC will visit various tourism establishments, to engage with product owners with the view of assessing how all the spheres of government can intervene to revive tourism in the province.

The two-day activation will also offer media an opportunity to experience and gain insight about the Provinces’ tourism offerings, and facilitate informed reporting on the Impact of COVID-19, and the Department’s recovery interventions to reignite tourism.
