Ekurhuleni identifies land to expropriate without compensation

Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina has identified at least four properties, three of them privately owned, that he wants to expropriate without compensation.

Masina said he wanted Ekurhuleni to be the first metro in Gauteng to expropriate land without compensation, with the land expected to be used to establish new townships.

He announced yesterday that the Ekurhuleni council had resolved to initiate the process.

MKMVA faces possible disbandment

The future of Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association hangs in the balance, with the ANC's national executive committee expected to discuss its fate when it meets this weekend.

A news agency understands that the party's Peace and Stability sub-committee, that was tasked with investigating divisions between members of the ANC's former military wing, has recommended that the MKMVA be disbanded and fresh elections for positions, inclusive of all the factions, be held.

Divisions came to a head when senior MK members, including commanders, formed a counter group branded the MK Council in the lead up to the ANC's elective conference last year.

Msimanga honoured and humbled after surviving vote of no confidence

Executive Mayor of Tshwane Solly Msimanga says he is honoured and humbled to have survived a second attempt to have him unseated as mayor through a motion of no confidence.

The ANC brought the motion yesterday.

Msimanga said the ANC could not put anything of substance forward to justify the motion of no confidence.

A total of 77 council members voted in favour of the motion, 95 voted against it and 21 abstained, including the Economic Freedom Fighters.
