SA surpasses 15-million vaccinations

South Africa has surpassed the 15-million Covid-19 vaccination mark.

According to the national health department's dashboard, over 15.1-million vaccinations had been administered as of 5pm on Tuesday, according to data captured on the Electronic Vaccination Data system, excluding vaccination records captured on paper.

Meanwhile, the country recorded 3 699 new confirmed Covid-19 cases and 300 deaths in the past 24 hours.

This brought the total number of laboratory confirmed cases to over 2.8-million according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

 

Matric exams brought forward due to municipal elections

The Department of Basic Education has brought forward the 2021 National Senior Certificate examinations because it clashes with the municipal elections.

Matrics were supposed to write their English, Business Studies and Non-Official Language Paper 1 final exams on November 1.

However, the exams have been moved forward to 27 and 28 October due to the clash, the department announced on Wednesday.

This follows a special meeting held by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and MECs.

The exams are expected to run for five weeks, and 207 question papers are expected to be written.

 

West African leaders to hold summit on Guinea coup

West African leaders will meet tomorrow to decide how to respond to the coup in Guinea and how to pressure the junta leaders to return the country to constitutional rule.

The 15-nation Economic Community of West African States has condemned the putsch that overthrew President Alpha Conde, the third coup in West and Central Africa since April.

Ghana Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, who chairs the ECOWAS council of ministers, told a news conference in Accra that the mission would report back to ECOWAS leaders on Thursday.
