Making headlines: Opposition underwhelmed by Ramaphosa's Zondo implementation plan; Four new cases reported in Limpopo measles outbreak; And, ActionSA appoints Western Cape chairperson

 

Opposition underwhelmed by Ramaphosa's Zondo implementation plan

Baying for state capturers' blood, opposition parties were underwhelmed by President Cyril Ramaphosa's implementation plan on the Zondo Commission's recommendations, with his apparent inaction against members of his executive a common concern.

After tabling his 76-page implementation plan with Parliament on Saturday, he outlined the plan in a public address on Sunday evening, promising a full-scale overhaul of South Africa's "anti-corruption architecture".

On the members of his executive implicated in the report, including influential ANC chairperson and Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe, Deputy Minister in the Presidency Zizi Kodwa and Deputy Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Minister David Mahlobo, Ramaphosa was vague.

Democratic Alliance chief whip Siviwe Gwarube said that Ramaphosa "simply provided an analysis of the Zondo judicial commission report, instead of stating what the executive he leads intends to do to insulate government processes from grand theft again".

 

Four new cases reported in Limpopo measles outbreak

Four more measles cases have been reported in the Greater Sekhukhune district municipality in Limpopo.

This brings to seven the number of reported cases in the area, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases says.

The cases have been detected in people aged between nine months and 24 years.

Three of the cases affect males, and four are in females.

One child was fully vaccinated for measles, with two... doses given in 2019. One child with measles had not been vaccinated, and the other five measles cases had unknown vaccination histories.

 

And, ActionSA appoints Western Cape chairperson

Newly elected ActionSA Western Cape chairperson Michelle Wasserman says she looks forward to growing ActionSA’s support and ensuring that the party establishes wall-to-wall branches and structures throughout the Western Cape. 

The position became vacant after Vytjie Mentor died in August.

Wasserman said ActionSA will have enough support by the time the National Government Election takes place in 2024 to vote the corrupt and incompetent African National Congress government out of power and to replace it with a coalition government led by ActionSA.

She noted that the Western Cape was the only province not being governed by the ANC, saying the party intended to bring the ruling Democratic Alliance below 50% by demonstrating the huge disparity between the haves and have nots.
