AfriForum persists with opposition to land expropriation without compensation

Civil rights organisation AfriForum has reaffirmed that it will continue to challenge government’s plan to expropriate land as part of its plan for land redistribution and agricultural, human settlement and industrial development.

AfriForum said on Tuesday that it will attend the public hearings in the Limpopo, Northern Cape and Western Cape over the next two weeks and vowed to fight against what it calls a “destructive policy”.

Earlier this month government announced the submission of a new Land Expropriation Bill to Parliament.

AfriForum head of policy and action Ernst Roets says government’s ongoing pursuit of expropriation without compensation is incredibly reckless.

 

DA wants clarity on revised list of high risk countries

The DA will write to Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi to seek clarity on government’s criteria used to compile the list of countries considered high risk for international travel during the coronavirus pandemic.

DA shadow Minister of Tourism Manny de Frietas says information received by the DA from tourism experts indicate that the uncertain and inexplicable red list will completely bankrupt the tourism sector in South Africa within a few weeks. 

South Africa has issued a revised list of countries banned and those allowed to travel from abroad.

 

Sudan eyes debt relief after lifting from US sponsors of terrorism list

Sudan's removal from a US list of state sponsors of terrorism will open the door for the African country to get relief of its external debt worth $60-billion, Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok said.

Hamdok spoke on state television after US President Donald Trump said the United States would remove Sudan from the list, which has been a major hurdle for Sudan to tap international institutions.
