Making headlines: Angelo Agrizzi's corruption case postponed to January 2023, independent panel probing allegations against Ramaphosa starts on Wednesday and, loadshedding escalates to Stage 4 until further notice

 

Angelo Agrizzi's corruption case postponed to January 2023

The lawyer representing former Bosasa COO-turned-whistleblower Angelo Agrizzi has said that the pulmonologists who examined his client agree that he can't physically attend his court case.

Agrizzi's corruption case was back before the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court in Johannesburg today.

But the case was postponed to January 23, 2023, to await the outcome of a case in the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on whether Agrizzi could physically stand trial.

Agrizzi and former ANC MP Vincent Smith were arrested and charged with corruption after Agrizzi allegedly offered gratification to Smith on behalf of Bosasa.

 

Independent panel probing allegations against Ramaphosa starts on Wednesday

South Africans will have to wait another month to find out whether President Cyril Ramaphosa has a case to answer for, with regards to allegations relating to an incident at his Phala Phala farm.

On Monday night, Parliament announced that an independent panel tasked with probing the allegations would start its work on Wednesday.

National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula appointed the Section 89 inquiry panel, following a motion by ATM leader Vuyolwethu Zungula for Ramaphosa's removal on the grounds of "a serious violation of the Constitution or the law and serious misconduct".

 

loadshedding escalates to Stage 4 until further notice

Eskom has announced that loadshedding escalated to Stage 4 in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said Stage 4 loadshedding was implemented at 05:30 am due to breakdowns of five generators at five power stations overnight. 

He said the loadshedding will be implemented until further notice.
