Making headline: ANC unable to pay staff salaries on time, eThekwini City Manager's return to work is legal, says municipality and, Voter registration this weekend for 96 by-elections

ANC unable to pay staff salaries on time

The ANC is facing more financial trouble – this time it is yet to pay its staff members at Luthuli House for September.

In a letter to staff dated 29 September, ANC general manager Febe Potgieter said staff should expect to be paid late.

Two staff members confirmed the letter, adding they were yet to be paid by Thursday.

This came as the ANC was issued a bill of R105 000 for its officials' trip to Zimbabwe aboard a South African Air Force jet.

eThekwini City Manager's return to work is legal, says municipality

The return of embattled eThekwini City Manager Sipho Nzuza is perfectly legal, the municipality says.

The eThekwini Metro said following the expiry of City Manager's special leave, he is legally entitled to resume his duties.

Spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela said that after Nzuza was arrested, he was suspended for three months in accordance with disciplinary regulations governing senior managers.

Voter registration this weekend for 96 by-elections

Voter registration will be held this coming weekend for 96 municipal ward by-elections scheduled for 11 November.

The by-elections will take place in 56 municipalities in all nine provinces across 461 voting districts affecting more than 600 000 registered voters, the Electoral Commission of South Africa announced on Wednesday.

This after by-elections were postponed in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Voting stations in affected wards will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 08:00 to 17:00 to allow all eligible voters to register and for current voters to check their registration details and to update address details where necessary.
