Masina resigns as ANC Ekurhuleni chairperson

The ANC’s Ekurhuleni chairperson Mzwandile Masina has said he will voluntarily resign as a councillor in the region.

Earlier this month, the ANC’s Gauteng leadership said Masina would face disciplinary action for allegedly defying an instruction to withdraw a motion of no confidence against the Democratic Alliance‘s Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell in October.

Masina is also expected to offer a public apology to members of the ANC.

 

South Africa head of prisons to appeal ruling that nullified Zuma's parole

South Africa’s prisons authority will challenge an Appeals Court ruling that nullified former President Jacob Zuma’s medical parole and ordered that he be sent back to jail.

Zuma was sentenced in July 2021 to a 15-month term by the Constitutional Court for contempt when he refused to appear before a judicial probe investigating state corruption during his presidency.

Zuma was released on medical parole three months later.

Correctional Services is convinced that another court may arrive at a different conclusion.

 

De Ruyter says sun and wind, unlike Eskom's coal, can't be stolen

Eskom CEO André de Ruyter has slammed critics of the utility's move towards renewables, away from coal, arguing that their arguments are not only illogical, but akin to wanting to keep SA stuck in the "Stone Age".

He said just because South Africa had coal did not mean it had to continue to burn it no matter what.

He said South Africa’s worst solar resources are better than the best solar resources in Germany. The country’s wind resources are among the best in the world.

He said reneweable resources cannot be exported to China, beneficiated there, and then be sold back to South Africa.

De Ruyter was referring to recent arrests at its power stations for coal theft and sabotage.
