Ramaphosa to hear from the tourism industry ahead of move to Level 3

President Cyril Ramaphosa will continue his consultative tour today, ahead of the country moving down to Level 3 of the nationwide lockdown.

He is expected to engage with stakeholders in the tourism sector who had asked to meet him.

The country’s tourism industry has been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, with Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane informing Parliament last week that her portfolio was the hardest hit by the pandemic.

 

Gauteng education dept receives 120 000 applications for Covid-19 youth brigades programme

The Gauteng Department of Education says it has received at least 120 000 applications for its Covid-19 youth brigades programme.

The programme will see unemployed youth brought in to assist the department to curb the spread of the virus at schools and government offices.

While the programme is seeking to accommodate an intake of 7 000 people, the department has, however, received at least 120 000 applications.

 

DA says Minister Zulu’s food parcel distribution regulation is ‘irrational’

Opposition party the DA said it was heading to court with a case against Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu, saying the regulations enforced on the distribution of food parcels were “irrational”.

Zulu enforced a ban on soup kitchens and drew up tight regulations that hindered the distribution of food parcels by nongovernment organisations and charities.

DA shadow cabinet member James Lorimer said the draft regulations were issued two weeks ago and had already been applied despite not being legally processed.
