SAA failing to pay tax deducted from staff salaries to Sars

South African Airways has not paid over the income tax the company deducted from its employees to the South African Revenue Service.

It is in breach of the bailout conditions imposed on it by the National Treasury, the DA said on Tuesday.

The stricken airline's failure to pay over the taxes emerged in a report to Parliament's committee on appropriations.

WHO calls for greater protection of nurses against Covid-19

The World Health Organization has joined hundreds of partners worldwide in highlighting the important role nurses play in the health-care sector, and thanked them for their selfless service, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic on International Nurses Day.

The theme for this year's International Nurses Day is “Nursing the World to Health”.

The WHO said the Covid-19 outbreak is a stark reminder that without nurses and other health workers, we will not win the battle against diseases or achieve the sustainable development goal of universal health coverage.

Museveni says its "Madness" to hold Uganda vote if virus persists

Uganda's long-serving President Yoweri Museveni has said it would be wrong to hold a presidential election due early next year if the coronavirus persists, signalling for the first time a possible postponement.

The 57-year old Museveni said to have elections while dealing with the virus will be madness.
