Ramaphosa says disorder and anarchy will not be allowed in SA

President Cyril Ramaphosa has weighed in on the planned Economic Freedom Fighters shutdown saying South Africa will "not allow anarchy and disorder."

Ramaphosa said the only recognised means of changing a regime in South Africa is through elections and not "attempts to promote an insurrection."

He said they met with the country’s security cluster yesterday, and they will defend the people from any planned attempts to destabilise the country.

Bheki Cele lays down the law as cops gear up for EFF shutdown

Police Minister Bheki Cele has assured South Africans that the planned shutdown won’t bring the country to a standstill.

Cele said all citizens and their properties would be protected on Monday, adding that it will be a normal business day, with all ports of entry operational. Measures are in place for all travel to ensure the safety of all people, he said.

Anyone who blocks roads, barricades highway, and prevent others from going to work will face the full might of the law, Cele said.

Furthermore, noted that police are aware of social media posts that people are being mobilised.

And, Lungile Phenyane withdraws bid for two positions in DA leadership race

Lungile Phenyane, the 36-year-old Democratic Alliance member from Tshwane, has withdrawn from two positions up for grabs at the party’s elective congress next month.

Initially, she had announced that she would contest all the positions challenging the likes of party strongwoman Helen Zille and incumbent leader John Steenhuisen.

She will now not contest Zille or Steenhuisen but remains in contention for the other positions.

Phenyane has never served in any DA leadership position and her own structure, the DA Youth, has a minimal record of her.
