Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says government will not allow the wheels to come off as a South Africa Social Security Agency social grants crisis looms.

He said the 17 million people dependent on the grants will be paid on April 1, and that government was fully aware of the Constitutional Court requirements.

 

The ANC Youth League has stuck by its president Collen Maine's comments about izimpimpi. It also insists Maine did not call Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan an impimpi.

ANCYL spokesperson Mlondi Mkhize said it was a comparison.

According to reports, Maine, speaking at the league's KwaZulu-Natal provincial conference, called Gordhan an impimpi and said "something needed to be done about him".

 

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africans are not a xenophobic nation, and has called on angry citizens not to take the law into their own hands over perceived criminality.

Ramaphosa said South Africa wanted to protect the rights, property and well-being of foreigners in the country in the same way he wanted South Africans in other countries to be protected.
