Sars lifts tax return threshold from R350 000 to R500 000

The South Africa Revenue Service has lifted the tax return threshold from R350 000 to R500 000.

This means that people who earn less than R500 000 a year, and meet certain other criteria, will not need to file tax returns.

Sars Commissioner Edward Kieswetter warned that taxpayers that false declarations are fraud and have serious implications.

Tax season starts on August 1. Taxpayers who are registered for eFiling or make use of the new Sars MobiApp can file their income tax returns from July 1.

ANCYL members call for disbandment of youth league leadership

ANC youth league members on Tuesday called for the disbandment of the leadership of the Youth League.

Members gathered at ANC headquarters Luthuli House in Johannesburg to deliver a memorandum.

One of the protesting youth league members Revivalist Kolobe Mamabolo said the term of the people occupying the leadership has expired.

They are calling for a new structure that will take them to the 26th conference.

Gupta executive Howa bragged about getting SABC archives for peanuts

Ex-CEO of the Gupta family's Oakbay Investments, Nazeem Howa, bragged about a "sweet deal" from the South African Broadcasting Corporation that allowed its television station ANN7 access to millions of rands worth of archive material for "peanuts," the State capture commission of inquiry heard on Tuesday.

The consulting editor of the now-defunct ANN7 news channel Rajesh Sundaram was on the stand for the second day at the Zondo-led commission.

He gave evidence on his experience at the Gupta's television channel. Howa was one of the top executives in the Gupta's vast business empire.
