EFF says Public Protector has no power to ask for change of Constitution

The Public Protector has no power to give instructions for constitutional amendment, the EFF said yesterday.

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane recommended that Parliament change the Constitution to amend the mandate of the Reserve Bank when she released her report into the “misappropriation” of apartheid funds.

EFF spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has questioned her “wisdom and understanding” adding that she was not a public representative therefore she does not have a constituency that voted for her.

 

Ramaphosa says the co-pilot is ready to be the captain

Presidential hopeful Cyril Ramaphosa is ready to take over as South Africa's captain.

Ramaphosa used the analogy of a captain steering a plane to its safe destination during his talk at the Gordon Institute for Science and Technology in Johannesburg yesterday.

He began openly campaigning at the ANC branch level while in Grahamstown during the cadres' forum.

 

Zwane says Gupta Leaks are an attack on him because he is black

Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane has spoken out for the first time about the so-called Gupta leaks, calling the allegations common lies and saying he is being targeted because he is black.

Zwane, who was speaking on the side-lines of a Black Economic Empowerment Advisory Council workshop at the CSIR in Pretoria, said he was happy that Parliament was dealing with the issue and added that people should not be labelled based on allegations.

In the so-called Gupta leaks, emails revealed that the controversial Gupta family were sent Zwane's CV a month before he was appointed minister of mineral resources. It also revealed that he took a trip to India on a Gupta plane where the Guptas picked up the bill for his accommodation.
