Ramaphosa says today’s youth have defined their mission

As South Africa gears up to celebrate Youth Day on Tuesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa has applauded the country’s youth for their optimism, resilience and courageousness,.

President Ramaphosa said the youth was building a more equal, just, sustainable and peaceful world.

With the recent protests against racism across the world and the removal of statues and monuments of racism, Ramaphosa said young people have found a common cause during a global pandemic.

 

Botswana delays reopening of schools due to Covid-19

Botswana has delayed the reopening of schools countrywide due to the reported increased risk of Covid-19 in the capital Gaborone.

The country’s ministry of basic education said the classes which were scheduled to open on June 16 will not open as scheduled until further notice.

It said all public and private schools in the Greater Gaborone zone would be closed until further notice and that pupils who were boarders would remain at the institutions as lockdown restrictions did not allow them to travel.

 

AfDB approves US$13.5m for central African region to fight Covid-19

The African Development Bank said it has approved US$13.5-million to assist member countries in the central African region to fight the

The bank said the package approved for this region will target the provision of personal protective equipment, testing kits and health-care and laboratory facilities for Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic, which are among the countries with the fewest ventilators on the continent.

On March 27, the AfDB raised US$3-billion from the Fight Covid-19 Social Bond, the largest dollar-denominated social bond ever launched in international capital markets.
