DA argues merits of De Lille's removal

The DA is expected to have its chance to argue the full merits of its decision to remove Patricia de Lille as a member of the party when the case returns to court today.  

However, De Lille's counsel is first expected to wrap up his argument.

The DA's decision to strip her of her party membership is based on comments she had made during a radio interview in late April.

Sean Rosenberg for the DA, is expected to argue the party's case after Johan de Waal, for De Lille, wraps his final 30 minutes of submissions.

De Waal labelled the decision "totally disproportionate" and a "total overreaction".

 

Emotions run high at public meeting on Cape Town International Airport renaming

Tempers flared during a public meeting regarding the renaming of Cape Town International Airport yesterday.

Members of the public were invited to the airport to voice their opinions on the Airports Company South Africa's proposed renaming of the airport, under the Transformation of Heritage Landscape Government Programme.

Members of the EFF strongly supported the suggestion that the airport be named after late struggle hero Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

Members of the Khoi community were in favour of the name Krotoa - after the historic Khoi figure.

The meeting quickly dissolved into chaos when member of controversial organisation Gatvol Capetonians, Ebrahiem Davids, said Winnie Mandela was never part of the country.

ACSA corporate affairs manager Deidre Davids said after public consultations are finalised, a report will be submitted to their principals and the competent authorities which are the Department of Arts and Culture and the Department of Transport.

 

Niehaus says ANC NEC was wrong when it decided members should not support Zuma  

The ANC national executive committee was wrong when it previously decided that ANC members should not support former president Jacob Zuma when he appeared in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Durban for corruption.

This is the view of Umkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association spokesperson Carl Niehaus.

Niehaus was speaking at a press briefing in Durban yesterday, held to unveil plans ahead of Zuma's court appearance on Friday, June 8.

Zuma is facing 16 charges which related to 783 payments he allegedly received in connection with the controversial multibillion-rand arms deal.
