Radebe confirms SA no longer has agreement with Russians on nuclear

Minister of Energy Jeff Radebe told eNCA yesterday evening that South Africa no longer had an agreement with the Russians to procure for the development of nuclear energy for the country.

Radebe said he was of the view that government did not appeal the court ruling in 2017 which invalidated the nuclear deal at that time.

Radebe was asked for clarity on the status of the nuclear deal, in light of Deputy President David Mabuza’s official visit to the Russian Federation in May and the BRICS Summit taking place in Johannesburg this week.

Radebe said any deal for nuclear procurement was set aside in court.

DA and De Lille head to court for round two

The DA and Patricia de Lille will meet again today in the Western Cape High Court for round two of De Lille's application for the court to review the decision to cease her party membership.

A full bench of the High Court will hear arguments on the matter today and Tuesday, after it was initially postponed from May 25 due to the judges needing more time to assess the submissions.

The court granted De Lille interim relief on May 15 after her defense team argued in her original papers that her axing from the DA on May 8 was unconstitutional and incorrectly applied to her.

Public participation meeting to be held over Cape Town International Airport name change

Airports Company South Africa is expected to host a public participation meeting today over a potential name change to the Cape Town International Airport.

In a fiery speech at Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral at the Orlando Stadium in April, EFF leader Julius Malema called for the airport to be renamed after the struggle icon.

Other names being touted include late former president Nelson Mandela, and struggle stalwarts Robert Sobukwe, Albertina Sisulu and Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.
