DA wants report on Deputy President’s whereabouts

Opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, said today that it will write to the Office of the Deputy Speaker, Lechesa Tsenoli, to request a report on the whereabouts of Deputy President David Mabuza.

Mabuza travelled to Russia last month to receive medical attention. The DA is also requesting that the report reflect the cost of Mabuza’s stay in Russia and whether the taxpayer is footing the bill.

DA Shadow Minister for the Presidency Solly Malatsi says in a statement that the report must be urgently tabled and presented to Parliament, with an opportunity for MPs to ask questions.

Ramaphosa to receive report on GBVF Plan

Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will today hand over the National Strategic Plan Report on Gender-based Violence and Femicide to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The NSP was adopted by Cabinet on March 11, 2020.

The report, which will be made public in due course, outlines government’s efforts in realising the outcomes of the NSP on GBVF.

The Plan provides a framework to guide the national response to GBVF in South Africa, and outlines a comprehensive strategic response to GBVF with a specific focus on violence against all women, as well as violence against children, and how these serve to reinforce each other.

And, US to ship 5.66-million vaccine doses to South Africa

The US government will ship nearly 10-million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Nigeria and South Africa as the continent battles a third wave of infections.

Four-million doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine will go to Nigeria and 5.66-million doses of the Pfizer vaccine to South Africa.

The South Africa shipment is the single largest sent by the United States since it began sending vaccine shots overseas. The latest shipments bring the total number of US vaccine doses sent to Africa to 16.4-million.

The urgently needed help comes as amid growing concern about vaccination rates in Africa, which lag far behind those of advanced economies.
