EFF wants Gauteng's Bandile Masuku to step down over Covid-19 tenders scandal

The Economic Freedom Fighters has demanded that the embattled member of the executive council for health in Gauteng Bandile Masuku step down.

This comes after allegations that the provincial government awarded a R125-million contract for personal protective equipment to the husband of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Khusela Diko. 

EFF acting provincial chairperson Itani Mukwevho said the party was "disgusted" at how Masuku handled the awarding of the contract to Madzikane II Thandisizwe Diko's Royal Bhaca Projects.

The Dikos are reportedly family friends of Masuku and his wife.

 

DA calls on Health Minister to publish all Covid-19 health contracts

The DA has called on Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize to urgently make public the names of all companies and their directors who have secured contracts with provincial health departments since the start of the Covid-19 crisis.

The call comes as the dubious R2-billion personal protective equipment contracts that have been awarded to various companies, many of which are politically connected or without any demonstrable history of supplying the services that are being rendered by the Gauteng Department of Health.

Gwarube said Mkhize had the power to oblige all nine provinces to publish the relevant information.

 

Tunisia announces new Covid-19 measures for arrivals from abroad

As many North African countries gradually reopen their borders after months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, authorities in Tunisia have announced new measures for arrivals from abroad.

It has been reported that the new measures were put in place after a number of new Covid-19 infections were recorded among returnees.

The government said the measures include the obligation to place all members of the same family coming from countries not classified on the 'green' or 'orange' list, including children under 12, in mandatory isolation.
