The African National Congress is coming for you. This was the stern warning from the party's deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday to those assassinating ANC candidates in KwaZulu-Natal.

About 12 ANC candidates have died in what are believed to be politically motivated killings in the province.

Ramaphosa was speaking at a mini rally in Folweni, south of Durban, where he was addressing a crowd of about 1 000 people.

He said those who committed the senseless killings in the province would be brought to book.

Ongoing drought in South Africa has disrupted food production and threatens to push food prices up, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Deputy Minister Bheki Cele said yesterday.

He said recent rain had not helped improve water levels in the country’s dams and as a result farmers were unable to produce enough food to feed the country.

Cele said the drought, whose effects the country would feel for a long time, had forced South Africa to "prepare for the future".

Prince Harry has told global leaders that HIV remains among the most pressing and urgent challenges facing the world.

Speaking at the 2016 annual International AIDS Conference in Durban, he urged people to maintain a sense of urgency in dealing with HIV.

Remembering the time his mother – the late Princess Diana - held the hand of a man dying of AIDS in an East London hospital, Prince Harry said: “No one imagined that over a quarter of a century later, there would be a treatment that could see HIV-positive people live full, healthy, loving lives.”

Ahead of the conference Prince Harry spent a few days visiting the new Mamohato Children’s Centre near Maseru, which he opened last year.
