Zuma says he has received death threats

Former South African president Jacob Zuma's personal assistant received a phone call threatening Zuma and his family with death, the State capture commission of inquiry heard on Tuesday.

On his second day before the inquiry Zuma said his ANC PA was called by an unknown person who told her to inform him that he would kill the former president and his family.

Zuma said not so long ago his senior advocate Muzi Sikhakhane was also threatened.

Zuma told the Zondo-led commission that the plot to kill him was hatched decades ago when he was chief of intelligence at the ANC because "he knew too much." 

 

Nyanda wants to cross-examine Zuma

The ANC's Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association council chairperson General Siphiwe Nyanda is considering applying to cross-examine former president Jacob Zuma at the Zondo commission.

During Zuma's lengthy statement, he implied that Nyanda was linked to apartheid intelligence, along with former mineral resources minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi. 

Nyanda said he believed Zuma had a vendetta against him because he had called for his removal after former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela released her findings against him.

 

Agri SA welcomes Didiza's commitment to black farmers

Agri SA said on Tuesday that it was heartened by Agriculture Minister, Thoko Didiza's budget speech.

Delivering her department’s budget vote address in Parliament on Tuesday, Didiza said her department will recruit veterinary doctors and animal health specialists in a bid to sustain the country's biosecurity in respect of livestock industry, among other programmes. 

President of Agri SA, Dan Kriek, who attended the speech welcomed the focus on partnerships, agricultural finance, the commercialisation of black farmers and the productive use of land.
